The Winds of Change are coming!
It will be getting Cooler and then Colder,,,
So, Let's make plans NOW!
1.
Have
your furnace inspected and tuned up
(do this right away, like early to mid September),
before they get real busy doing others)
2.
Apply
a fresh coat of paint, for sure where needed
3.
Inspect your roof
4.
Check
for mold
5.
Replace weather stripping on doors
6.
Check
air flow in vents i.e. stove, dryer, room fans
7.
Clean
gutters and downspouts
8.
Check
siding for curling, splitting or cracking
9.
Inspect your insulation
10.
Make
sure smoke detectors are working (change the battery anyway)
11. After the last mowing of you yard change the oil, clean the air
filter, fill the gas
tank with Treated Gasoline, start your equipment and let it run for about
5 minutes (important)
(strongly recommend that YOU purchase ONLY "REAL GAS" for
your
lawn equipment not the everyday gas that usually buy for your auto)
change the spark plug in your mower and Edger,
Treat the gasoline with a Gas Treatment that
makes it stay fresh for months
12. About Early November disconnect the garden hose
from the outside Faucet and IF you do use it again
for some reason, DISCONNECT IT AGAIN!
(you don't want this to freeze, it can cost money to get repaired
and cause wet damages to the inside of your home, which will also cost you
more money)
13. Change the filters in your Heat and Air System
14. Have your auto battery checked for reserve power. Auto
batteries that are the least
bit weak will quit, usually on the first really cold morning
15. Treat your lawn with a weed control
about mid to late October
so that next spring you don't have more weeds than grass
If you have a service, they should do this for you, but ask anyway!
If there other checks that you think of,
drop me an Email and I will promptly add it to this list (artjiles@artjiles.com)
email address or call me 918.258.2298

I’m a firm believer that a restaurant’s
atmosphere isn’t nearly as important as
its food quality – and as we see with
many small-town restaurants in Texas,
the two are often mutually exclusive.
That being said, if a restaurant can
deliver high marks on both fronts, even
better! Such is the case at RH Rooftop

Don't clog with the
F.R.O.G.s
With the holiday
weekend approaching,
you don’t want your
kitchen sink to
croak, so don’t put
your F.R.O.G.s down
the drain.
That’s right,
F.R.O.G.s (fats,
rags, oil, and
grease) are
notorious
obstructionists in
sewer lines and
wastewater pump
stations.
When these culprits
clog the sewer
lines, wastewater
finds the path of
least resistance. It
can blow back into
your sink or
bathtub, creating
unsanitary
conditions in your
home and costing you
thousands of dollars
to clean up.
When rags, also
known as “flushable
wipes,” fats, oil,
and grease enter the
system through a
kitchen sink or
toilet, they are
trouble for the
sewer system.
These wipes wrap
around the intricate
parts of the City’s
pump stations,
causing them to shut
down. City employees
remove enormous
amounts of wipes by
hand every week to
get the system up
and running again.
Sewer obstructions,
such as these, clog
the pump stations
that carry
wastewater to the
City’s wastewater
treatment plant.
When wastewater
comes out of a pump
station or a
manhole, it gets
into our rivers,
streams, and ponds
and can lead to
illnesses for people
and animals and harm
plant life. Please
keep fats, rags,
oil, and grease (F.R.O.G.)
out of the sewer
system.
When in doubt, throw
it out in the trash,
do not flush it down
the sink or toilet.
Here are other
non-flushable,
non-drainable items
to avoid putting
down your sewer
system:
Click this link to
see what to NOT
flush down the
Toilet
yes! it is a
safe link!!
-
ts. Dairy
products such as
milk, cheese,
butter, and used
oil or grease.
Grease
solidifies when
it gets cold and
will adhere to
pipes.
-
Cotton Swabs do
not dissolve.
They clump
together and
cause blockages
in the system.
-
Paper towels. These
are also
clogging
culprits. They
do not dissolve
and will clog
your pipes.
-
Dental Floss. Acts
as a net
catching other
objects and
debris in the
flow.
-
Tissues. Though
they are
similar, toilet
paper and
tissues are not
the same.
Tissues do not
dissolve in
water.
-
Face masks,
feminine
products, and
condoms.
These items will
not flush and
will cause drain
and sewer system
blockages.
So please don't clog
with the F.R.O.G
(fats, rags, oil,
and grease). Keep
them out of the
sewer system to
prevent harm to your
home, the sewer
system, and the
environment by
throwing them away
in the garbage.

AIR-PURIFYING HOUSE PLANTS
The following article on the most colorful and best-smelling house
plants is reprinted from www.houselogic.com, an
informational website sponsored by the National Association of Realtors.
Most air-purifying house plants put out their own sweet smell while
removing the nasty ones that make your nose curl.
But just to clarify, while NASA confirms these plants do
tackle toxins, they are not a cure-all for our home here on earth.
They will remove some toxins, but since our homes are not airtight
(unlike NASA’s place abodes),
they can’t remove everything because the air is constantly changing.
But don’t let that put you off. These air-purifying plants can make
a difference in your home with their sweet scents. Here are a few to get
you started
·
Jasmine has a sweet odor that can calm you
·
Lavender is great at making you sleepy
·
Rosemary can help you focus and work smarter
·
Sharry Baby Orchid smells like chocolate. Delicious!
·
Mother-in-law Tongue turns carbon monoxide into oxygen
·
Devils Ivy (pothos) can cleanse air of toxic fumes
·
Mums tack on of the toughest toxins: cigarette smoke
·
Peace
Lily can reduce annoying, new odors from upholstery and carpet

Broken Arrow Police Department Newsletter - September 2022
Crime Prevention tips to keep you safe |
|

Auto Thefts on the rise
Broken Arrow Police Department is seeing an increase in auto thefts this year. This is not involving vehicle burglaries, but actual thefts of a vehicle.
Since January, officers have investigated 174 stolen vehicles, the majority of which are trucks. Of those stolen trucks, officers are investigating more thefts of American made trucks than foreign made trucks. Plus, trucks built before 2018 are being stolen more than trucks built after 2018.
The attached graphs show which trucks have been stolen the most this year in Broken Arrow and what years a majority of the stolen vehicles were built. Many of the stolen vehicles are unlocked with the keys left inside.
Please LOCK your cars at night, park them in well-lit areas, submit doorbell videos or security camera footage of thefts to the police department when available, and call the non-emergency phone number when necessary. That number is (918)-259-8400.
If your neighborhood would like to have Broken Arrow Police Department speak at an upcoming neighborhood meeting about crime prevention, please email CrimePrevention@BrokenArrowOK.Gov.
New Orleans and Elm intersection enforcement
Broken Arrow Police Department recently conducted a directed enforcement operation at the intersection of New Orleans and Elm based on complaints from citizens and officers recognizing the need for focused enforcement. In just over 4 hours, officers made 47 stops and issued 54 citations.
All of the violations were observed within the construction zone. Primarily the violations were speeding, left turn violations, and running the red light. Manpower for the operation was funded through a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.
Please pay attention to the signs posted at this intersection and drive safe while the construction on the intersection continues.
